Our research is settled in the field of Bioinorganic Chemistry. We are interested in the properties and three-dimensional structures of Plant Metallothioneins (plant MTs). MTs are involved, among others, in the transport and homeostasis of essential metal ions, e.g. ZnII and CuI, as well as in the detoxification of certain heavy metal ions, e.g. CdII and HgII. Additionally, a role in the scavenging of reactive oxygen species is discussed. In our studies, we are applying methods from the fields of Inorganic/Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, as well as Structural Biology (structure determination by X-ray and/or NMR).

If you are interested in taking the challenge of investigating biological problems with a bioinorganic approach, you should additionally
(i) have a Diploma/MSc or PhD in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biophysics, or Molecular Biology,
(ii) have the ability to think independently, analyze problems, work in an analytical and systematic, yet sometimes also unconventional, way and bring in your own thoughts and ideas,
as well as
(iii) have fun in doing research and broaden your knowledge in general!

You are also welcome if you are interested in doing an internship or conducting your Master thesis in our lab.
